Chronology of education/work experience for Arild Bergh

  • 2004 - present: PhD at Exeter University with Tia DeNora: Music and Conflict Resolution.

  • 2008 – present: Music and Arts in Action: Co-Editor and instigator of online, peer reviewed journal (http://musicandartsinaction.net)

  • 2006 (May): Completed M.Phil. and transferred to full PhD at Exeter University.

  • 2002-2003: Postgraduate Certificate in Research methods of Social Sciences, Oxford Brookes University. Completed with distinction.

  • 1995: Conceived and developed the project “Med Music on the Move” about the music of immigrants from Mediterranean countries inside the EU. Received 60,000 pounds funding from the EU and BBC World Service and collaborated with 7 other journalists on the project.

  • 1992 - present: Running own company, Asgard Software, Oxford, specialising in bespoke software and websites.

  • 1990 -1992: Worked for Broadcast Software, London, as in-house developer and installer.

  • 1986 -1990: Music director of a local radio station, and freelance music journalist for NRK (Norway’s national radio), Puls (Norway's biggest music paper), Morgenbladet (Norwegian newspaper). Did major research and article series on Eastern European underground music and worldwide cassette music networks.

  • 1981-1986: Trained and worked as glazier, Drammen, Norway.

  • 1980-1981: Gjerde Business School, Drammen, Norway.

  • 1971-1980: Konnerud Primary/Secondary school

  • JournalServer - 2001 to 2003: Technical director for this project initiated at Oxford University. It aims to assist scholarly journals from low and middle-income countries to be online free of cost.

  • United Nations Association (Oxford branch) - Development officer 1998 - 2002. Responsible for promoting the UN's work to schools and other groups in Oxford via talks and networking. Helped to start an UNA branch at Oxford Brookes University.

  • Public Speaking - Charter member of Bardwell Speakers Club, Oxford. Vice-president (Education) in 1998-1999 and 2001-2002, with responsibility of guiding members towards a completed course in public speaking. Winner of Area speech contests in 1999 and 2000.
