Title: Can't stop the music: Music and interruption in conflict transformation

ImageAt this years SocArts symposium I will present a paper that looks at how music may work in conflict transformation contexts because it provides interruptions to practices, behaviours and thoughts during conflict transformation work. You can view the full presentation and abstract below.

Abstract

This paper will discuss a pragmatic aspect of music which may provide a key insight into how music can be/is successfully used for conflict transformation purposes. This aspect is the interruptions afforded by music, both on an external, social level and on the internal, more psychological level. The general social view of music as a positive activity is discussed in terms of how it may "allow" interruptions that are otherwise difficult to justify.
