One of the key issues for me is to easily re-access articles and web content that I want to use at some point, but perhaps not right away. There are tons of electronic journals out there and plenty of news stories etc, but can you get back to it when you need it? I am using a Wiki to help me store and retrieve all this info. |

 Zotero bibliography software The bibliography part of academic work is so boring, but Zotero makes it a lot easier to deal with. Zotero is free and is an addon to the Firefox web browser. When you do searches on Google Scholar, Google Books or a range of journal sites such as JStor you can just click a button to add one or more entries to your bibliography. |

 Express Scribe transcription program One of the rather boring jobs is to transcribe the interviews (this is when I really want to be rich and be able to hire people to do my dirty work!). I found a rather useful free program called Express Scribe which makes it a lot easier, it is available for Linux, Mac and Windows. |

A core part of my research is ethnographic work, i.e. interviews with people who have been involved in using music in conflict resolution work. After spending some time looking into issues around recording interviews I managed to choose some reasonably priced high quality recording kit. |
